Taking a Step – Yoga Practice Suggestion

Taking a Step – Yoga Practice Suggestions

For practicing Yoga at home, here are a few suggestions to help you in your practice of yoga.

ENVIRONMENT. Create an environment that allows you to withdraw from the outer world. If possible, set aside a separate room or a part of a room for your practice. Include in this space incense for the sense of smell, beautiful pictures for the sense of sight, and artifacts, images, or symbols that give you inspiration and enjoyment. The environment should stimulate joy, happiness, and bliss.

POSTURES. Many people in the Western world think of Yoga as Hatha Yoga: performing physical postures. Hatha Yoga is one limb of many limbs in the practice of Yoga but this limb is important for assisting the mind and body in releasing tension and facilitating relaxation. Hatha Yoga teachers suggest holding each posture for ten to thirty seconds to create a static stretch. There are four basic postures that are designed to re-energize the body.
The four basic postures consist of a forward bend, a backward bend, inverted poses and twisting poses. Most of the poses used in a typical Yoga class will be a variation of these four movements.

Of course, we do not want to forget the resting pose at the end of a yoga session. The resting pose allows the body to register the effects of the previous poses. Yoga postures and practices provide the opportunity for us to step back and take a break from the world.
Doing a regular routine allows us to stretch out the tension in the muscles, relax the mind, and let go of life’s cares. In addition, we benefit from developing strength and flexibility, improving coordination, and increasing cardiovascular efficiency.
What kind of routine do you follow? Do you engage in yoga classes and practices daily? We would love to hear about your routines and what works for you.
Stay awake, aware, and alert and strive to lead a well-tempered life – a life that possesses both hardiness and flexibility. The good news is that once you are awake, you can never go to sleep again, but if you do, do it on purpose and prepare yourself for the consequences.
