Taking A Step – Physical – Earth Posture

Taking A Step – Physical – Earth Postures

The next set of poses and techniques help to enliven the Earth element within us. These yoga poses will assist the EARTH element to deal with fears and to develop discernment at the metaphysical base chakra, Muladhara. As the Earth is always serving us, we often take it for granted. The Earth element feels happiest when it is working in groups helping to build or achieve things. This expression has a great deal of patience for details and being methodical in its approach to build the idea of the Air, the actions of the Fire, the reactions of the Water and take all that data and fill in the gaps so that the finest product or outcome is achieved. The Earth, however, is often thought of as always available to serve us and we fail to give back to this expression at times leaving the Earth-element person unappreciated.

So for assisting this expression, it is best to move into meditational practices to release and rebuild the energies within.

1. Sit in a comfortable, stable position with the spine straight, your hands resting on your knees and your eyes closed. Begin the journey into a meditative state by focusing on your breathing. The mind needs somewhere to place its attention for it to cooperate with the process of meditation. You will notice thoughts: Notice and do not do anything. Just notice.

2. Continue to focus on your breathing. Without attention to any end result, sit silently in this manner for ten to fifteen minutes.
3. Preparing to come out of the meditative state, slowly and gently register awareness of your body and how it is sitting in the upright position.
4. Now, lie down for two minutes, registering the peace and silence you felt in meditation before going back into activity. Take this peace with you and return to this meditative state at your next sitting.
Once in the morning and once in the evening is all you need to begin to feel the connection of your physical self with your spiritual self, that self which is connected to the spiritual realm of all possibilities. Yoga postures and practices provide the opportunity for us to step back and take a break from the world. Doing a regular routine allows us to stretch out the tension in the muscles, relax the mind, and let go of life’s cares. In addition, we benefit from developing strength and flexibility, improving coordination, and increasing cardiovascular efficiency.

Whether you are new to meditation or have tried many different methods, take things slowly, just notice your thoughts and when you find you are getting caught up with them, gently bring your awareness back to the breath. How does that feel? Did you experience some peace and relaxation? Please elaborate if you did. We would love to hear from you and about your meditative experiences.

Stay awake, aware, and alert and strive to lead a well-tempered life – a life that possesses both hardiness and flexibility. The good news is that once you are awake, you can never go to sleep again, but if you do, do it on purpose and prepare yourself for the consequences.
