Client Denial – What would you do?

CLIENT IN DENIAL – WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

As a life coach, what do you do when a client is in denial?

Many times we listen to our clients and we know that they are not in touch with the reality that appears very clear to us. What should we do?
Here are two suggestions for keeping yourself on track and you have to decide which suggestion works best for you:

  1. The first suggestion is to keep reflecting back to your client what they are actually stating and act as a mirror when you hear them say things that sound as if they are in denial: if I hear you correctly, you’re saying that……
  2. The second suggestion is to ask your client directly: from the way I hear what you are stating about the situation, it sounds to me like a bit of denial. What are your thoughts on that?

Truly, we are all in some kind of denial when we are shifting our lives around and it can take a lot to wake us up to change the current reality and to move towards a new and different outcome.
Persistence and commitment to change is what we all need to have in order to take steps to change.

What are some steps that you have used to incorporate change in your life? We would love to hear about those and share some of our thoughts with you as well.

Stay awake, aware, and alert and strive to lead a well-tempered life – a life that possesses both hardiness and flexibility. The good news is that once you are awake, you can never go to sleep again, but if you do, do it on purpose and prepare yourself for the consequences.
