Being in the Present

Being in the Present – some thoughts on this….

Here is a beautiful poem that I love to share with others whenever I can. It truly describes the journey of life and I always feel so inspired when I read it. I was reading somewhere in a book on Vedanta that being present doesn’t mean being in the present tense. Rather it means, having the intention to be in a higher state of mind. You know how they always say: be in the present. That always bothered me because as a person very keen on personality theory, some of us love to be in the future and some of us in the past. I truly believe that we have these preferences that influence how we think and do things and how we feel about all that. So, this little bit of insight clarified for me, what being present meant. It is not time-based at all but consciousness based.

ANCIENT SANSKRIT POEM

— Author Unknown

Look to this day, for it is life
The very life of life.

In its brief course
Lie all the realities and truths of existence.
The joy of growth, the splendor of action,
The glory of power.

For yesterday is but a memory, and
Tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived
Makes every yesterday a memory of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well therefore to this day.

Isn’t that lovely! What are your thoughts about this and how to you go beyond time-based frameworks? Prayer, meditation, intention? What is your faviourite approach to higher levels of consciousness? We would love to hear about it.
