Taking A Step – Have you ever considered what a cup of coffee can represent?

Taking A Step – Have you ever considered what a cup of coffee can represent?

A cup of coffee can represent our life force that provides us with the opportunities to enjoy life.  Life is like a cup of coffee and the cup can represent our achievements in the relative world.  But, although the cup is important as it holds the liquid we want to consume, what is more important is the quality of the liquid or the coffee that we put into our cup.  The cup is the holder of the liquid and represents what we have achieved. Unhappiness comes when we compare ourselves (our cup) with others in terms of how much money, possessions, power, fame, friends do I have compared to others.  These things, though important and which can bring us pleasure, are not the purpose of life. The purpose of life is to experience the joy of living – the inner essence of who we are.

That is what the coffee represents; our essence, our joy, our happiness, our lessons, the opportunities to evolve and grow.  If you think of your life like a cup of coffee, what kind of cup are you seeking?  What kind of coffee are you? Are you paying more attention to the style of cup rather than the essence of what goes into the cup? What is more important to you?  The drink of coffee or your essence and joy (the inner experience of our life) or is the cup (the outer expression of our life) more important to you?

We have to take care of our cups (our bodies and what they allow us to achieve in life) and we have to take care of what we put into the cup – only put good things.  If we use our bodies and our life force only for external accomplishments, then we are missing the higher principles of life:  the spirituality of life that comes from the joy of creativity, the joy of being with wonderfully kind people, the joy of watching a beautiful sunset, the joy of waking up in the morning and saying, what a beautiful planet!

Ask yourself, ‘what is my focus?’  Am I focusing on the cup as the package that holds the coffee only or am I also focusing on the coffee and enjoying the richness and favor?  That is what we do with life – we get confused with the package and forget about the substance at times.  Enjoy the coffee while taking care of the cup. Stay awake, aware, and alert and strive to lead a well-tempered life – a life that possesses both hardiness and flexibility.  The good news is that once you are awake, it’s hard to go to sleep again, but if you do, do it on purpose and prepare yourself for the consequences.
