Supervisor Training

This program prepares an individual for their first position as supervisor and enhances their understanding of the roles and functions of supervisor. It is also useful for those who are already performing in this capacity and who wish to improve their skills.

The seminar deals with basic managerial training and covers topics such as identifying your responsibilities, clarifying your leadership style, understanding motivation and how to increase job satisfaction and productivity, making objective decisions, communication skills and dealing with conflict, and planning and goal setting strategies. By the end of this workshop, participants will have a clear understanding of their functions, their weaknesses, and their strengths as a leader. This program enhances the understanding of the manager’s roles and functions.

The learning processes used are informational lectures, small and large group experiential exercises, one-on-one role plays, case studies and small group discussions.

This program deals with the basics and covers the following:

Module One — Beginning

  • What to expect — your first day on the job.
  • Identifying your new responsibilities.
  • Why leaders fail.
  • Characteristics of an effective supervisor.
  • Case study and/or experiential activities.

Module Two — Leading — Getting work done with and through others

  • Leadership qualities.
  • Business objectives.
  • Your leadership style.
  • How and when to delegate.
  • Situational leadership and when to use what style.
  • Characteristics of a good leader.
  • Case study and/or experiential activities.

Module Three — Controlling — Employees’ relations

  • Managing and controlling your staff.
  • Job satisfaction and performance.
  • Dealing with conflict and problems.
  • Understandig the MBTI and people differences.
  • Understanding your typical conflict style.
  • Developing other strategies for conflict resolution.
  • Case study and/or experiential activities.

Module Four — Planning and Coordinating — Time and Productivity

  • Planning as a management process.
  • Defining requirements and setting goals.
  • Understanding cascading goals.
  • Using the SMART way.
  • Helping others set goals.
  • Planning and purpose — where are you going?
  • Identifying expectations.
  • Work assignment approaches.

Module Five — Organizing and Control — Time and Productivity

  • Time management strategies.
  • Productivity patterns.
  • Prioritizing work.
  • Case study and/or experiential activities.

Module Six — Survival guide for the new leader

  • Suggestions for disciplinig, performance appraisals and more.

Participants: This two day training is for people from all levels of the organization who will be moving into a leadership position or who wish to improve their skills as leaders.
